I've been directed to here and your great use of the portable infoboxes.
What exactly do you guys do to get these new infoboxes looking nice? I assume it has something to do with the theme-source="tooltip" maybe?
What precisely do you want to know about our portal infoboxes? Your best bet would be to meet (and I'm sorry to send you on a goose chase) or chat up with our resident staffer and awesome editor: http://skyforge.wikia.com/wiki/User:Pinkachu
She is our goddess in terms of coding, if that is what you are wondering. I am more in the aesthetic department for designs and what not, and sometimes I'll fiddle with the code. I'd also like to add that we are using the new infoboxes with the new coding, so keep that in mind if you see anything that is foreign to what you are used to seeing.
There is no reason for there to be a separate ultimate section when Frost Shackles and Radiant Aspect are the Ultimates of their respective classes. Same goes for the Finishers, it's easier to write (Finisher) or (Ultimate) after the skills. Rather than making a new sectiong for them.
Edit: Those are just the ones I know about, but the same goes for the rest of the classes.
"[insert ultimate name] (Ultimate)" rather that than having a new "skill" since there is no skill in game called Ultimate or a skill called Finisher, they have different names but they Finish or they are an Ultimate skill (usually because that skill also affects Bosses otherwise it wouldn't be an Ultimate skill.
We use the term "Ultimate" because it is used by the My.com and Allods team, as well as colloquially in the game. If I am a new user to Skyforge searching for the ultimate abilities for each class, this edit makes it both visually appealing and easy to find.
To be honest I found it confusing that you had 2 skills that were the exact same thing only difference is that one had the actual skill name and icon and the other had a term and an icon that is the class icon of that specific class. Which is why I had made that change, aesthetics is what confuses people in the first place.
Especially aesthetics that aren't part of the game, part of the game as in it doesn't show it as the game would. Yes that specific skill is an Ultimate not a whole new skill, so writing (Ultimate) or (Finisher) next to the name of the skill would show which skill is what.
Edit: I am see what you tried to do, but the 2 shaded table doesn't do you much good. Thats what confused me at first, in terms of coding writing a small word after the skill would be easier than making a whole new table or if you want you can write in the tooltip that it is also know as an ultimate/finisher.
I've done extensive "polling" (let's call it) and no one seems to have an issue. I've brought in five brand new players (around 200 prestige in-game) and ask them about what they think about both versions. In all cases they preferred the version that is currently available as it was "cool looking" or "sticks out better".
The staff at the Wikia here, and the My.com team also enjoy it so it will remain.
I asked Raylan13 to look at the Tooltips. He found we were missing a js script and it's working now. The tooltip diplays a link only on mobile which is perfectly fine. He restored your infobox but we still need to tweak it for use here. I would stick with your idea.
Also, any major changes need to be discussed with all involved, especially me, before they happen. I left a note on the thread concerning tabs. Warframe is on our list of broken things. You might take a look at the Destiny one. Recently revamped and a majority of it works with mobile. I would much rather have a site that was easy to use, easy to access from anywhere and a lot less complicated, than a site with tons of bells and unnessessary whistles. Right now we need content and a TON OF IT. That should be the priority.
Yeah, I basically figured anything that isn't at least somewhat mobile friendly will have to be scrapped. Mostly, I was trying to rip their table formats, because they look really nice and are close to what I want to use to mimic Skyforge's tooltip table format. :P (I'm online now! the abyssal nap started at a bad time)
Yeah the Warframe wiki pretty much topples almost all other wikis, at least in WAM. I can see why so many aspire to be as amazing as they are. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to reach that level, but it's definitely going to take some time. They have some serious god code-work on their Wiki and it's going to be a little difficult to try and peel off their code and put it onto our own, but I'll definitely try. I totally forgot about Wf wiki's tabulated form- thanks for the input. I'll talk to Pinkachu about it.
Before either of you do anything crazy, go look at Warframe on mobile. Its seriously broken in a lot of ways. Tabs and Tabber fall apart in mobile or create pages so long, users have to scroll forever to get to anything. Sandbox your ideas but please make sure they are useable in on a smartphone. Pretty isn't always better and over half of Wikia's total views come from mobile devices. If it breaks in mobile, then I will have to revert it and that sucks for everybody.
Technically they're in spans right now to they can be used in text. They could be adjusted with css to move them up or down quite easily. I could actually add in style tags with variables if you wanted them.
I was just looking at the Cryomancer abilities table and I thought that the description seemed a bit squished because of the widening information. My thoughts were that we should probably take all the information to the left of the description, and simply add it to the description and try our best to mimic the format that exists in the game.
I noticed the removal of text from that page and appreciate your concern. At the time the videos were all I had to work from and while the information was based on them, it was not a transcript, but rather re-written in an attempt to be as unique as possible. Unless the text is from an official source, this is always best practice. Since the information is now dated, it makes more sense to allow users to rewrite new and current information so I have no intention of reverting anything. I unlocked the Monk last night, so a majority of my attention will be directed to that article in the near future.
As for the tables, I have not looked at them in a while but I do not remember the table being a fixed width. I had spoken with other active Admin about coming up with a universal template for abilities but nothing has been set in stone. All suggestions are appreciated. As a staff member, it is also important to me that whatever solution we as a community come up with, that it be mobile friendly which I seriously doubt the current format is. One of our main goals for all our communities this year is to attempt to convert them to become as portable as possible as more of our views each month are coming from mobile devices. There is a 'Mobile' preview available.
If you have ideas in mind for the table, or are considering not using one at all, please create a sandbox page, or a subpage under your user name to to place your ideas and share them with me. I would love to take a look. This way we can avoid confusion with multiple edits and reverts for the same issue. Thanks!
And hey, none of this would be possible without you. :D
Also, I've been toying with a few templates I found in your lovely Wildstar wiki, but I can't get them to work as awesomely as they work on that wiki. I tried copying the abilities table & the tooltip template but it's not working for me. I'd love to have your help!
